[CHARACTER INFO] CHARACTER NAME: Alexander Aaron "Phobos" SERIES: Marvel 616 CHRONOLOGY: Post being stabbed by the Gorgon but before he is reunited with his father in Elysium. CLASS: Kid, sometimes hero. BACKGROUND: Alex is the mortal-born son of Ares (aka the manliest man in the marvel universe) and an unnamed mortal woman. By the time Alex was born, Ares had come to the decision to no longer be the God of War and cut all ties with his family. Having a son that was not a beast but a boy, gave Ares the desire to give him everything he could not have and more, which was why he settled down and decided to allow Alex a normal life. Up until the point where Alex was kidnapped, he had lived comfortably with his father and shared a very close bond with him. Unfortunately, when Ares was called forth to his duty as God of War, his refusal cost him his son. Alex was taken from Ares by the Greek gods only to be kidnapped from them by Amatsu-Mikaboshi. Infuriated, Ares destroyed everything in his path until he had gained the attention of his father and was transported to Olympus. Zeus, desperate for his son’s aid, was reduced to begging him to help fight off Mikaboshi. Ares agreed to help but only with the intention of retrieving his son. Under the care of Mikaboshi, Alex was continuously poisoned and made to believe that everything in his life had been a lie, that his father was a terrible evil god that brought nothing but pointless bloodshed. He was convinced that he, being the son that comes from a history of patricide, must kill his father and become the new God of War--one who can end conflict. Fast forward five years, the war was still going on. Eventually, Alex and Ares confronted each other (fought). Alex accused his father of being a liar and attempted to kill him using the grasscutter (kusanagi). After succeeding in stabbing his father, Zeus finally got his act together and broke the spell that clouded Alex’s judgment. The war eventually ended with the aid of the Japanese gods and after Alex turned on Mikaboshi by stabbing him with the grasscutter. Father and son end up in Mythical Africa and live there until they grew bored with it and decided to live in New York City. While in New York, Ares resumed his work in construction, commuting to Dover, New Jersey until the Avengers decided it’d be really cool to recruit him, being that he was the God of War and all. Alex was proud that his father was a part of something larger but underneath it all, there was a problem. Ares found himself so busy saving the world that their relationship became strained. Growing pains, attitude changes and less time together created a gap between the two. And it only got worse when Norman took over the Avengers. It was around this time that Alex discovered his fear-based powers and was eventually recruited by Nick Fury to become a part of his secret team. Under the guide of Nick Fury, Alex learned to control his powers and of new ones. Ares ultimately found out that Alex was a part of Fury’s team, putting them on opposite sides of the battle. Unable to deny his son the right to choose a side, Ares accepted his son’s membership. After some rough patches, his father explained to Alex due to his particular situation where he gained powers of a god, though his body is of a mortal was, unnatural and required judging by the Olympian Gods. His father took him to Olympus to be judged. He stood in front of Balder, Quetzalcoatl and his grandmother, Hera, while they questioned him and came to the conclusion that he would be accepted as a peer among them. Though, it isn’t until the celebration that Alex was told that in order to become a full fledged god, he must die. During Seige, Alex is left behind only to witness his father being torn in half by the Sentry on live television. Not even skipping a beat, Alex immediately breaks into the White House, blaming the President for giving Osborne so much power and allowing things to escalate to what they have become. The President managed to escape as Alex incapacitated all his secret service agents. With no other way to communicate with him, Alex wrote a letter to the President warning him of the consequences of his decisions and that he was lucky that he managed escape a God’s wrath. After Siege, Nick Fury began to crack down on Hydra and Leviathan and got the ball rolling with his teams, Black, White, and Gray. After the events in China, which chained a series of other events in various locations between Nick Fury and the others, he settled on ending it once and for all. Alex’s team was sent to Gehenna. Having a mole in their group, their arrival was expected and nothing goes as planned. Things go terribly wrong and they are forced to escape, however, Alex stayed behind to fight the Gorgon. Alex was unable to paralyze the Gorgon with his powers while at the same time he remained unaffected by the Gorgon’s gaze (it turns people to stone). Unfortunately, he was defeated, having put up a good fight, and was killed with the broken blade of the God Killer. In the end, Alex was reunited with his father once again in Elysium. PERSONALITY: Initially, Alex was just like any other kid his age. He was cheerful, bursting with energy and clever. He enjoyed playing games, running around with his friends and spending time with his hero—his father. Though, after the incident with Mikaboshi, Alex no longer seemed to possess that innocence he was known for. Appropriate of his new found fear-based powers, he had become a darker and quite jaded person as he slowly became distanced with his human side. While Alex prefers to keep to himself, he isn’t necessarily antisocial nor is he intimidated by others easily. He simply prefers to avoid unnecessary chatter, the kind that seems to do nothing but cause problems (he really doesn't like to gossip or be around it). When no one else is willing to, he will point out the elephant in the room and confront other about it. Avoidance is simply another form of cowardice which is something he does not tolerate. He can see through others' bullshit and he doesn’t get wrapped up in details or in the what-ifs. Since being accepted by the Council Elite of Earth’s Pantheons, Alex has been finding it increasingly difficult seeing things as a mortal, as a regular human being. That isn’t to imply that he feels above others, he is just unable to see where they are coming from (losing touch) and is beginning to view the world through his father's eyes. Being as mature as he is and can be, Alex is still a child of twelve years and as a child, he enjoys living a little (dangerously, even). Life as a covert agent can be grim, thus he needs an outlet, which normally involves JT, Eden and shenanigans, and if not with them, he certainly enjoys what all kids his age do in modern times, playing video games. POWER: Alex has fear-based powers and a limited precognition. Fear: He obtained fear-based powers from his dead older half-brother (the original Phobos) upon leaving Olympus after the war had ended. With these new powers, he is able to instill to those around him their greatest fears. This works by him making eye contact with others, however, his power has limitations. He is unable to incapacitate those who have already overcome their fears or simple lack one. It is also said that he has the capability to have his foes fight each other, most likely due to his manipulation of their fears and their fragile state of panic. This power is rarely used. Precognition: He can see into the future, though it is limited as to how much. For example, he is able to foresee JT’s death yet had no idea of his father’s death until it was too late to do anything to prevent it. Even though Alex has this power, he doesn’t make much of an effort to change its course, for example, he was able to see that Yo-Yo was going to get injured (her arms getting cut off) but he refrained from telling her how and when, only that it was going to happen. There is also the situation with JT where he tell him he is going to die and then subtly tries to warn him that he shouldn’t have taken the money from Fury, saying that nothing good would come out of it, however he never specified the consequences. As far as skills, Alex has been trained under Amastu-Mikaboshi in swordsmanship and some hand to hand combat. He has also been partially trained by his father, Ares (God of War) while in Africa. In addition to being trained by some badass gods, he was taken under Nicholas Fury’s wing and trained in more hand to hand and espionage. Despite the fact that he is the son of a God, Alex possess a mortal body, therefore he doesn’t have super strength or any of the perks that Gods have other than his fear based power and precognition. In addition to all that, Alex is skilled in electronics, at least enough for him to get what he needs: wifi. FINAL NOTES: Figuring out Alex's age has always been confusing since they constantly change it in the comic, literally in SW he goes from being 12, to 10, to 11. In the Ares mini, he was 8, spent 5 years at war making him 13. Regardless of how fast time moves on Olympus in comparison to Earth, there was 5 years his body grew and unless his return to earth de-aged him, it is unlikely he would be 10. But you know, comics. Anyway, I'm going to stick with him being 13, almost 14ish by this point if we agree he was 12 joined Fury's team and 13 by Seige. |
